Australian landscape architecture is like the continent itself - diverse and often contradictory. As we face nightmarish floods after a long period of punisging drought it seems impossible to give a unified or consistent summary of the country. Perhaps the most unifying characteristic is how Australians have struggled with their European roots to work out how to live on the continent and also to learn to love it, a project that they are still in the thick of.
